Topic of Study:
Regions of California
We will begin the year with a review of the four regions of California. We will re-examine the topographical features, the natural resources available, climate, location, and so on. Understanding the four regions creates a foundation for the remainder of the social studies units we will be exploring this year, including: waves of migration, colonialism, missions, California Indians, the Gold Rush of 1849, and more.
Universal Theme: Community
How does understanding the four regions help us understand the various communities established within each community? This includes communities native to that region, and the various changes experienced within those communities because of the changing nature of the regions over time?
